Is the deal that if we win it all you get our 1st, or do you just get it anyways?

You guys have to win it all. Why I was hoping you would win it last year and then tank this year. 2 picks in the lottery

Here's hoping Howden makes it clear to Tampa that we won that trade!!!

As far as line combinations go, Quinn has all kinds of problems once everyone is healthy. We have too many top 9 guys and not enough 4th liners. Beleskey and Fogarty seem to be working well there (though I haven't been able to watch many games recently). But once everyone is back, they are likely the ones to sit which means players who should be top 9 end up on the 4th and then we (the fans) complain. Trades need to happen. That's the only answer I see. Then Chytil, Anderson, Howden, etc. can all get the ice time they need.

Tonite is going to be a good measuring stick of how far the team is progressing under Quinn. Tampa is one of the best teams in the league and any of our deficiencies will be exposed. I am looking forward to a good, entertaining game. LGR!

I liked Howden. Good player - how's he been for you so far?

McDonagh has been out-flippin-standing this year.

Solid player...has his ups ad downs, as most young players do but does appear that he will be a good pro player

Love Mac. Good first pairing guy. Great on the second pair for you. My only worry is he eventually breaks down like a Duncan Keith bc of all the games hes played already

" Then Chytil, Anderson, Howden, etc. can all get the ice time they need. " That thought was debunk since the summer months. I thought that Quinn put an end to that after he picked Howden to be the center of the 3rd line? Than again JG had plenty of moments where he would talk about wanting to resign Hayes for the long term. The hiring of Quinn kind of sealed one of the three rookie center's who was less skilled.
I digress though...

He's been great, he didn't get the respect by most of the NYR fan base during the summer. All in all he's probably been the most trusted rookie center out of our 1st rounders. Though in the long term, I can see why Tampa kept Cirelli.

do you guys think he is back next year? What kinda cap hit?

I could see him getting 6x7mil from Tampa but idk if that works with their cap..

i think the howden trade was one of those trades where its hard to pick a winner cause each team got something it really needed. TBL got a top 4 dman that can take a tremendous burden off of heddy. This will give Heddy a chance at a longer and more successful career IMO as he wont be asked to play 30+ minutes a night. There is obvious concern with the length of the mcdonough deal but for my money hes been the best defenseman on the ice more games then heddy has this year. And JT Miller has been a solid piece for the time being, he may be the odd man out at the end of this year but hes providing high end skill to pair with the young grinders which helps us to produce goals at the crazy rate we are currently. The NYR got a (What i believe) 2nd line center with all the heart in world, good size and skill and 3 years of ELC for him to grow and learn the game. TBL had center depth and NYR had players that were gonna be up for big contracts on a team that wasnt positioned to be a true cup contender so each team got a big benefit out of this trade. The ole Win Win if you will.

It's crazy how Yzerman can trade a guy like Howden but still have rookies like Joseph make it on the squad, while having a significant impact. It just goes to show how well the Lightning's scouting department has done. I'm just hoping we can take that final step to win the cup. I'm sure you guys would like that too so you could get our first lol.

Any reason why Yzerman stepped down? Figure he would stick around to finally see a potential cup in Tampa. Team is so close

Hes still in the ORG. as a senior adviser this year, what we were told is it was to spend more time with family as all of his kids and wife still lived in Detroit the entire time he was working for the lightning. Hard to say if there were any other reasons as the lightning front office is quite good at keeping a tight lip.

Lol idk, I was asking the same kind of questions since last February. It was draft day and people kept claiming that Hayes is for sure goner. Than mid summer came and people were acting like the 2c and 3c was going to be Chytil and Andersson ( because future lol) while Howden is 4c or AHL bound. We're almost half way through the season and everything is lining up to be Chytil as a wing, Howden as a 3c, Hayes extension and Andersson (fill in the blank yourself ).

No doubt but Yzerman is gone after this season ends no? You will feel the affects of how he gets down when he's the new GM of Detroit. No need to stick it to us that our draft picks hinges on your teams quest for the cup lol.

Besides Hank, some of NYR's biggest pieces have came outside of actual Ranger draft picks. They traded away their 27 yr old top 6 center to make room for Hayes (Chicago's 1st rounder) and Zib ( Ottawa's lottery pick ). McD was MTL' s pick.

No room for them with the vets. I like the young guys, but they haven't significantly outperformed the guys ahead of them on the depth chart. We can look to the future all we want, but at the end of the day, the goal is to win games. You don't do that by throwing rookies into a top 6 role ahead of vets that deserve to be there. However, once some vets are moved out, there may be more room.
Also, picking Howden over Chytil or Anderson was not simply a Quinn decision. Howden outplayed them in preseason and earned the spot.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Zib and Hayes. Each of their futures with the team will have an impact on the 3 rookies.

Already locked up for 7 years, 6.75 aav.

He'll start wearing down around year 4 of this extension I bet, but damn, that is a fine deal to go along with Heddy longterm.

Doublepost... oops.

BrisBoise was the guy who built the farm and managed the cap. Not too worried.
